Wild Wild West Day and more fun next week!

This week at camp was full of adventures! The campers have been talking all day about the adorable farm animals on the field trip yesterday and our Bogrim kids had a blast at bowling this morning. We had a special guest visit from Debby Singer and PJ Library when the kids got to collect nature treasures and use them to paint a tablecloth! Throughout the week, the campers have made ice cream from scratch, played kickball, swam at the pool, and even made sheriff badges in preparation for tomorrow. Check out some of the awesome pictures below to take a peak at what a fun week our campers have had!

Tomorrow is Wild Wild West Day, so we encourage our campers to dress up as cowboys, cowgirls, their favorite farm animal, or anything else inspired by the wild west! Campers will be traveling back to a historical California, mining for gold, churning butter by hand, practicing their skills with a lasso, and completing a fun obstacle course.

One of the activities tomorrow will involve the kids working together to make a stone soup. In the story (which we’ll be reading), each villager from a starving town brings the bits and pieces of vegetables they have in their kitchens together to add to the stone soup and end up making a delicious meal together. We would love it if campers would bring one vegetable from home to bring in and share as part of our camp soup. We will also be providing vegetables here at camp as well for campers who don’t bring one from home.

We will be having water play tomorrow, so make sure to send your campers with swimsuits, towels, and sandals. Please also pack them with a white t-shirt to change into for our Shabbat celebration. Parents are welcome to join us for Shabbat from 3:10-3:30pm.

If you have not yet checked out our new Camp Gan Shalom page on the Jewish Federation website, take a look! The instructions for getting signed in to this password protected area are found below.

Next week we have another amazing session of camp planned. It is Maccabia week, so the kids will be in placed on their teams on Monday and prep for their friendly competitions on Friday. As is tradition, we have our campers tie dye t-shirts during this week of camp. Please send your campers on Monday with a white t-shirt to dye (logos are fine). If you don’t have a shirt to send them with, we can provide a white t-shirt for $5.

On Tuesday we will be having a USA fair in anticipation of the 4th of July. Come in patriotic colors and outfits and celebrate with face paint, a bean bag toss, snow cones, and more. Please remember that there is no camp on Wednesday, July 4th.When we return on Thursday we will be taking our field trip to LACMA. Don’t forget to send campers in their camp t-shirts and with disposable sack lunches.
