Maria Elena Durazo epitomizes the phrase “Si se puede–Yes we can.” For over 30 years, she has championed workers’ rights, fought for civil rights and marriage equality, led campaigns for a healthier environment, and moved tens of thousands of Californians to take action. Called “the single most influential individual in Los Angeles politics” by the L.A. Times, Durazo became UNITE HERE’s General Vice President for Immigration, Civil Rights, and Diversity in 2014. In February of 2017, she was elected Vice-Chair of the Democratic National Committee, and was also recently named Vice Chair of LA 2024, the city’s Olympic committee.
