Federations Applaud the Presidential Determination on Refugee Admissions

Jewish Federations of North America commend the Biden Administration for introducing the Presidential Determination on Refugee Admissions that will authorize the admission of 125,000 refugees for fiscal year 2023, maintaining the level at which it was set for fiscal year 2022. The administration also increased the refugee cap from Europe and Central Asia to 15,000, up from 10,000, as a result of the war in Ukraine.

At a time when increasingly higher numbers of individuals around the globe are becoming displaced due to political and religious persecution and violence, this admissions level ensures that the U.S. will continue to build on its legacy as a beacon of opportunity and refuge. Building on Jewish Federations’ decades-old work of resettling refugees - which began with Jewish refugees fleeing Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union, and has continued with our groundbreaking Afghan and Ukraine Resettlement Grant Initiatives launched this past year - Jewish Federations will continue to work with the government, our agencies, and partners across the country to ensure those fleeing violence and persecution have the resources and support they need as they build new lives in the U.S.
