In 2012, a group of people had a simple idea - let’s create a day encouraging people to do good. And with this, #GivingTuesday was established, and today marks the 10th anniversary of this desire to have a specific day set aside to support organizations that do incredible work in and for local, national, and international communities.
During the 24 hours of last year’s #GivingTuesday, donors gave almost $3 BILLION. Let that sink in for a moment. As the leader of a nonprofit, I can guarantee that those funds were not only immediately put to great use and had profound impacts on the people the organizations support. And I know this because it is the same thing the Jewish Federation does with each donation we receive.
With this in mind, I strongly encourage you to give to the Jewish Federation TODAY. Be a part of this worldwide phenomenon that is helping to make the world a better place, and know that your gift will impact the community you are a part of and live.
I know that some people aren’t quite sure what the Jewish Federation does, although they do know the kind of impact the organization has during times of crisis. So let me take this moment to let you know.
While our mission is to build community by strengthening and enhancing Jewish life, this may not clearly explain the value we add to our community. So let me elaborate on this.
The Jewish Federation is a resource for everything Jewish in the greater San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys. We are a safe place for people to find their way into and connect with their Judaism and the Jewish community. The programs and services we provide celebrate the Jewish community and create opportunities for people to engage with the beauty and richness of Jewish culture. And we are the Jewish voice for our local community, the eyes and ears that serve to educate and promote Judaism and Jewish life locally.
Our collective Jewish community is facing an existential threat right now with the rise of antisemitism and hatred that is targeting Jews all around the world. Our Jewish Federation is the local organization that brings our local Jewish community together to confront and address these issues.
A gift to the Jewish Federation, either as part of #GivingTuesday or any time during the year, ensures a strong and vibrant Jewish community in the greater San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys that people can feel a part of and connect with.
When you are thinking about what good you will do to participate in #GivingTuesday, please make sure your Jewish Federation is on your list.
